APC WRX in FastFours (Oct 2002)
APC was the 1st to modify and drag race a brand new 2001 WRX purchased in December 2000. We were able to achieve 13.8sec with the factory turbocharger and 12.5sec pass with a replacement VF series turbocharger while retaining the factory intercooler. Other modifications were 3" turbo back exhaust, custom tuned chip, fuel pump, blow off valve and replacement up-pipe before the turbo. After these modifications were tested and completed, the vehicle was heavily modified as you can see in the photo shoot. The vehicle suffered from gearbox issues as they did in the day before good quality after market gearbox parts were available. The best time recorded was 11.4sec @ 126mile on pump fuel; the vehicle also suffered on this run guess what? A broken gearbox! The vehicle never returned to the track and later sold.
Shane Pavey's V8 EATR was also featured in this issue photo graphed on the front cover. APC tune this vehicle on pump fuel and has run a 10 second pass in "full street trim" no one yet has beaten Shane's 2000 model WRX in street trim.
